The Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne is one of the world's leading children's hospitals. As part of a global network of paediatric hospitals, our Hospital sees itself as an international resource and a platform for international health promotion. RCHI's role is to coordinate projects where we share our knowledge. RCHI is not-for-profit and all projects are funded from external sources. It is an integral part and a Department of the Royal Children's Hospital. RCHI was established in 1998.
RCHI seeks support from philanthropic organisations and the corporate sector to undertake philanthropic work. External funding is needed for every project. Overseas partners also assist with fund raising. Sponsors include:

Mission
To provide international leadership, strengthen collegial relations between RCHM and child health workers in developing countries, and promote service to the international community.
Our values
1. Passion. RCHI is passionately committed to improving child health care in developing countries.
2. Unity. Our challenging projects in developing countries promote multi-disciplinary teamwork, innovation and higher staff retention, differentiating RCHM from other employers. RCHI is a link between the hospital, the University Department of Paediatrics and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. RCHI collates information on all of the international activities at RCH and provides opportunities for departments to market their products.
3. Integrity. Professional project and fund management combined with transparent operations, generating trust and confidence from donors and clients.
4. Excellence. Never accepting second best in anything we do. Projects are evidence-based and benchmarked against international standards of practice.
5. Respect. For the culture, aspirations and values of the communities in which we work. Respect for each other within the team.
Philosophy
1. Equity and justice. Children everywhere have equal rights to excellence in health care. All countries share responsibility for children's health. We advocate for patients and families in the foreign institutions we visit. The main focus in all of RCHI's international projects will be on ensuring that the host country is the main beneficiary.
2. Knowledge is a resource to share. RCHI will do all it can to facilitate a two-way exchange of knowledge and ideas that benefit children's health
3. Cultural sensitivity and respect. We value the understanding of other cultures and communities that our international work brings and seek to build trust and friendship between diverse communities.
