Go to Fact Sheets

Kids Health Info (KHI) is the Royal Children's Hospital website for medical information written for parents (and later for children too). Hopefully, fact sheets help you to better understand or care for your child with a health problem.

You can use the fact sheets to:

  • Help think of questions to ask your doctor, nurse or other health-care professional
  • Understand more about a test or treatment your child is having
  • Understand more about your child's diagnosis or condition
  • Learn more about caring for your child at home.

Don't use the fact sheets:

  • To make a diagnosis yourself.
  • Instead of seeing a professional.

and please read our disclaimer.

Is your child going to hospital?

Click on this link here  to find out about the free booklet and CD called "Going to Hospital" which contains lots of information for children, parents/guardians and coping skills for children on how to relax and deal with fears about being in hospital.

Find a doctor

We really encourage all children to have a regular family doctor, who they trust and who knows them and knows their family. If you need help finding a GP, take a look at our 'Find a GP' webpage: www.rch.org.au/kidsconnect/gp.cfm

We also have a website just for GPs, MCHN's and community paediatricians, called Kids Connect: www.rch.org.au/kidsconnect.  Tell your GP, MCHN or paediatrician!

Congratulations Kids Health Info!

Sept 7, 2007: The RCH Kids Health Info website was 'Highly Commended' for Excellence in Consumer and Carer Participation' at the 2007 Victorian Healthcare Awards presentation, held at the NGV in Melbourne.

A huge thank you and word of congratulations is extended to all the people who continue to make this website work:

  • RCH clinicians who write, and work with their consumer groups so effectively to develop and review factsheets.
  • Parents and consumers, including patients, general practitioners, paediatricians and nurses from the community, who provide feedback and suggestions through the website.
  • Debra Shaw who generously volunteers a day a week editing and updating the website.
  • Consumer groups and other hospitals and organisations who have partnered or shared content with Kids Health Info to develop factsheets.
  • Volunteer parents and young adults who have written or helped us develop factsheets useful to them.
  • Evaluation and Analysis Coordinator Dr Jemma Skeat and Web Developer Marina Norio who helped set up the online survey.
  • Administration, Educational Resource Centre designers and clinical staff - especially from the Department of Medicine and Clinical Quality & Safety - who helped set up, promote and maintain the website since it's inception in 2004.
