    Roles within the Physiotherapy Department

The Physiotherapy Department employs approximately 40 physiotherapists as well as two allied health assistants.  Our staff provide physiotherapy services across weekdays, weekends and public holidays as well as an evening service.

    Allied Health Assistants

We have two full-time allied health assistants who work alongside physiotherapists to carry out treatment programs and provide other supportive roles within the department.

    Grade 1 Physiotherapists

The Physiotherapy Department employs nine full-time grade 1 physiotherapists onto our Paediatric Rotation Program.  Staff on this program rotate through different clinical areas of the department every four months.  The aim of the program is to provide postgraduate clinical experience by integrating knowledge and skills from a broad area of paediatric physiotherapy, thereby increasing the number of physiotherapists with specialist paediatric experience and enhance the healthcare of children.  Throughout the rotations, grade 1 physiotherapists receive supervision, guidance and feedback from senior physiotherapists along with involvement in a tutorial program.

    Senior Physiotherapists

The remainder of the physiotherapists (grade 2 to grade 4) within the Physiotherapy Department work within a specific area of clinical practice within one of the three streams - cardiorespiratory, neurosciences or orthopaedics.

    Casual positions

The Physiotherapy Department also has a pool of casual physiotherapists who predominantly work on weekends and public holidays.  Advertisements for casual positions are released periodically on the RCH Careers website when staffing levels result in a need for additional recruitment.
