    July 2022: Medtronic 780G upgrade

If you currently use a Medtronic insulin pump with CGM and your pump is in warranty, Medtronic is offering a free loan pump upgrade to the latest 780G insulin pump. If this interests you, register with Medtronic. At RCH we are still awaiting advice about how the rollout will occur and how we will support our children and families to update to this technology. For further information check the Medtronic website or phone the helpline.

    April 2022: Tandem T:slim Control-IQ Software Update

AMSL Diabetes have released the software update for Control-IQ for Tandem T-Slim x2 insulin pump in Australia on April 4 2022. To access this upgrade you must also be using Dexcom G6.

The process for supporting families to update requires some online training and education.

Click here to start your online training.

Once the online training has been completed, you will need to email diabetes@rch.org.au the following:

    • Certificate of completion for AMSL online learning modules
    • Software Update form
    • Upload your insulin pump when emailing RCH and let us know you have uploaded

A diabetes nurse will then give you a call and organise a review 2-3 weeks after completing the software upgrade and review your pump upload with you.

Here's some further information about the Control-IQ update process.

Some key points about the Control-IQ update:

    • the software upload cannot be reversed back to Basal IQ (predictive low glucose suspend)
    • it is a predictive algorithm which reads 30 minutes into the future (so it is very important not to manually override the system)
    • if you have technical problems completing the software upgrade call AMSL technical support
    • You still must bolus for all carbohydrates eaten
    • There will be times when you need to manage hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose readings)
    • There will be times that you need to manage hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose readings)
    • Additional functions are included in this system for sleep and exercise activity
