Simulation Train the Trainer Program
The Royal Children’s Hospital Simulation Train the Trainer Program gives clinicians the fundamentals in preparing to become effective simulation facilitators and educators. This workshop provides participants with the underpinning knowledge, skills, and practical frameworks required to design and deliver high-quality simulation-based education.
Day 1 and 2
The two-day program covers foundational simulation theory, principles of educational design, and strategies for creating a safe, supportive, and psychologically secure learning environment. Participants will develop capability in scenario design and development, as well as explore a range of debriefing methodologies to enhance learner reflection and performance improvement.
Day 3 Application Intensive (Optional):
This advanced workshop is designed for participants who have completed the two-day Simulation Train the Trainer Program. It builds on the participants foundational knowledge gained by day 1 & 2, by providing hands-on practice, expert mentorship, and structured peer feedback to further refine facilitation skills.
The program begins by developing core skills in:
• Scenario design
• Applying a range of debriefing methodologies
• Understanding simulation technology components and moulage design
To consolidate learning, participants will then engage in three interprofessional simulation scenarios, rotating through the roles of facilitator, participant, and observer across medical, nursing, and allied health disciplines. These scenarios apply principles of team reflexivity to strengthen communication, collaboration, and patient safety.
Each participant will receive tailored coaching and feedback from the RCH Simulation Team throughout the program.

Future Programs
The RCH Simulation Team is aiming to provide a refresher debriefing course for participants who have completed the Simulation Train the Train Program and are looking to advance their skills in debriefing.
VEMS (Visually Enhanced Mental Simulation)
The RCH Simulation Team are facilitating education sessions on how to run a VEMS (Visually Enhanced Mental Simulation) sessions. VEMS can be used for communication or deteriorating patient training, and/or running through guidelines and protocols etc. This simulation education modality is easily facilitated by educators in their department and has been used to good effect where lots of time, space, and/or equipment, are not available.
