About Point of Care Testing

Point of Care Testing (POCT) involves any screening/diagnostic pathology testing performed near or at the patient’s bedside.

POCT support is provided by Laboratory Services which includes:

• Assistance with the procurement of devices by assessing manufacturer's claims and offering guidance as to their suitability.
• Managing the connectivity (if applicable) of devices to the EMR.
• Supporting training and reassessment of operator competency.
• Overseeing Quality Control and managing the Quality Assurance Program for eligible devices.
• Assistance with maintaining devices or replacement programs (i.e. glucometers)
