What expectations does the RCH have of casual staff?
The RCH casual provides necessary and critical services to assist the hospital to provide required services to sick children and their families. It is important that all RCH casual staff:
- Provide professional, effective, ethical and punctual services to the RCH.
- Practice within your scope of practice for registration (where applicable).
- Be flexible and responsive to RCH staffing needs.
- Be willing and available to work over a range of shifts which could include day, afternoon, evening or weekend shifts in a range of wards or locations that suit your skills and experience. A minimum of 3 shifts per month.
- Adhere to the RCH policy and procedures and conduct yourself professionally.
- Observe confidentially at all times.
- Fill out timesheets accurately and submit on time to Nursing and Administration Workforce.
- Promptly notify issues to Nursing and Administration Workforce.
- Ensure you adhere to the required RCH dress code and the clinical staff attire policy.
- Casual staffing policy.
- Wear your RCH ID at all times.
What can RCH casual staff expect of the RCH?
RCH Casual staff can expect that the RCH will:
- Provide professional, effective and ethical casual staff management services to the RCH.
- Provide professional and effective candidate care to Casual staff members.
- Recognition of RCH casual staff members and giving priority for shifts.
- Establish and communicate clear standards and expectations of our casual staff and what they can expect of the RCH.
- Demonstrate a family-centred approach to the provision of care to sick children and their families.
- Establish effective operating practices and procedures for Casual service management, recruitment, training, performance management etc.
- Provide professional, mandatory training and payment for attendance.
- Provide orientation and buddy support to new Casual members.
Review of casual bank
As part of managing the casual bank staff it is important that staff meet the requirements of their contract, which includes the dot points listed above. Periodically the Nursing and Administration Workforce staff review hours worked over a specified period of time to determine those staff who have not met the minimum shifts required for work. If minimum shifts are not met, the staff member will be asked about their continued employment at the RCH and a decision to continue to remain on casual bank will be decided between employee and the NAW manager.
NAW will communicate with casual bank staff regarding their commitment to fulfilling the minimum requirements to remain on bank via the following:
- Monthly audits which consist of phone call, text messages and follow up email if there has not been any response.
- Failure to respond to NAW within 7 days may end in termination if you have not picked up a minimum of 3 shifts for the month and you have not notified NAW of your circumstances.
