    Congratulations and welcome. To ensure your journey at The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) is the best it can be, right from the beginning, we have designed this website to help you learn more about the RCH before and during your time with us.

    Working With Children Check

    All RCH employees must have a Working With Children card, or provide a copy of a completed Working With Children application form and payment receipt, before they are able to commence work.

    Staff should also be aware that applicants and holders of a Working with Children Check have continuing obligations regarding disclosure of certain information - including change of personal details. Please familiarise yourself with the requirements

    Photo ID

    On your first day of work, photo identification is required for Security to issue you with your RCH Security Access Pass. This card will give you access to your work area. Unfortunately Security is unable to issue you with an access card if you do not bring in photo ID on your first day or fail to return the required documentation prior to your commencement date. Nil

    Your first four weeks

    We know that your first few months in a new position and organisation can be daunting, so we have outlined your first four weeks of on-boarding activities at the RCH. This will help to orientate yourself with your surroundings and ensure you are familiar with your conditions of employment.

    Week Description
    Day 1 Your manager/supervisor will formally orientate you within your department and hospital premises via the formal new employee induction checklist.

    Week 1 to 4
    New employee induction program

    This is a fully supported program that will provide you the opportunity to meet the CEO, meet and network with fellow colleagues and the RCH service providers among other vital hands-on training and information that will have you up and running.

    RCH compliance suite

    As part of your responsibility to comply with mandatory training, you will be assigned RCH compliance training in your first week. During the course of your first 12 months you will be assigned online training around emergency response training, OH and S in the office, workplace bullying and harassment prevention and hand hygiene.

    Probation plan

    It is important for you and your manager to sit down and provide each other with feedback within the first month of your employment. Early conversations like these eliminate any stressful or unreasonable thoughts that you may have about the organisation and/or your role specifically.

    As an RCH employee you are required to comply with hospital policy and complete the New Employee Induction Program.Induction is a fully supported program where you will gain invaluable knowledge around hospital practices, policies and procedures.

    The focus on the health and wellbeing of our staff and incorporating the psychological and physical safety in the hospital by way of the RCH compliance suite will form part of your induction to the hospital.

    New employee induction

    It is a mandatory requirement for all new RCH employees to attend New Employee Induction within their first four weeks. Your HR Advisor will book you into a session closest to your commencement date.

    Unite with fellow colleagues and be part of this interactive session.

    Meet the CEOand hear about the current organisational structure and clinical programs that run throughout the hospital. This is your opportunity to ask the CEO questions.

    Responsibility tier including organisational governance, RCH Values, code of conduct and relevant policy and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for everyone that works and visits the RCH.

    Your health and wellbeing is important to us. Let us tell you more about our ongoing initiatives to ensure your mental and physical wellbeing are looked after.

    You are required to attend a new employee induction in your first four weeks of work. If you are unable to attend within your first four weeks, you will need to advise your manager and book into the next suitable session date.

    RCH compliance suite

    During the course of your first 12 months you will be assigned online compliance training around:

    • safe and positive workplace behaviours
    • workplace health and safety
    • infection control: handy hygiene
    • emergency procedures training – areyou RACE ready?
    • wadja aboriginal family place

    In your first week, you will receive notification via your RCH email account from the hospital Learning Management System, Learning Hero.

    Facilities

    Bike store amenities

    The RCH has a secure bike storage facility with 500 spaces and access to change room facilities. The bike storage facility can be accessed via Flemington Road and is located in the east building, lower ground. All RCH staff can access the bike storage facility using their security ID card.

    Bike storage racks, reserved for visitors to the hospital, are located near the Emergency entrance to the hospital. Bikes should not be chained to seating, railings or other fittings around the hospital grounds.

    The health and wellbeing program is designed to build and strengthen the RCH Community. The program is focused on three key themes, these include;

    The RCH offer a number of benefits and initiatives to support your physical and mental wellbeing.

    Managers are encouraged to:

    • actively support and promote the implementation of health, safety and wellbeing enhancement initiatives
    • view health, safety and wellbeing as an integral part of daily business activities, and demonstrate this through their planning, communication and work practices
    • encourage and support the involvement of their staff in health, safety and wellbeing activities.
