The Starlight Express Room (SER) is an ever-changing, fun-filled place for inpatients, outpatients and their families seeking entertainment, a place to play and a distraction from illness. This is where Captain Starlight orchestrates its own brand of fun and mayhem, alongside the latest computer games, movies, crafts, activities and visiting performers. The room is a welcome retreat for siblings wanting to escape the tedium of waiting around in hospital corridors.

    Starlight TV

Children who are unable to come to the room can join in the fun via Starlight TV which is broadcast to bedside TVs in the wards. Starlight TV is produced on site in the Starlight Express Room with live shows twice daily on weekdays, at 10.15am and 3.15pm; and 2pm on weekends. With Captain Starlight as the host, the daily shows focus on providing lots of interaction for children confined to the wards who can use their bedside phone to call in and participate. Whether it is a special quiz, a favourite game or a celebrity host, Starlight TV is a daily highlight for many children.

Starlight TV also broadcasts the latest movies to bedside TVs and in the room. Children can request their favourite movies to be aired across Starlight TV.

To keep up to date with the latest events and performances in the Starlight Room, tune into the live TV broadcasts, check the Education Institute’s "What's On" guide and Starlight’s brochures which are distributed around the RCH.

    Ward visits

Captain Starlight makes ward visits twice daily at the RCH. Our Captain Starlights are a team of talented professionals trained to help children and young people through some of their most challenging moments - overcoming the anxiety of surgery, distracting them from the pain of having a dressing changed or simply relief from the boredom and isolation that hospitalisation can bring.
