As the current PEDS Licence holder for Australia and New Zealand, the Centre for Community Child Health is required to ensure quality implementation of the PEDS screening tool. Training programs are regularly updated based on the latest early childhood research. Each workshop is evaluated and practitioner feedback used to inform the ongoing development of the program. Training programs aim to provide practitioners with the knowledge, skills and confidence to implement PEDS well. As part of the training, participants have an opportunity to practice using, scoring and interpreting PEDS, through exploration and reflection on a variety of case studies. Training is also provided for experienced practitioners who wish to become PEDS trainers.
How can PEDS help in the early detection of developmental delays? How can PEDS support collaboration between parents and practitioners?
PEDS is an accurate, reliable tool for providing developmental and behavioural screening and ongoing surveillance in children from birth through to eight years of age. The PEDS tool helps with the early detection of developmental delays, which can lead to significant improvement in child outcomes. PEDS training is designed to provide a broad range of practitioners with the resources required to use the PEDS tool, as well as the knowledge and skills required to use this tool in a collaborative way with parents to help them engage with their child’s development.
This half-day session will provide participants with an opportunity to understand PEDS, explore its administration and the role PEDS plays in the early detection of developmental delays. Participants will also have an opportunity to practise using, scoring and interpreting PEDS using a range of case studies.
Course outcome: Participants will be able to effectively administer PEDS in collaboration with parents to support the early detection of developmental delays in children.

Prior learning in the use of PEDS or application skills in using the PEDS is an advantage. Participants would also benefit from refreshing their knowledge in areas including developmental screening, child development and behaviour, and parent engagement. All these areas of learning are addressed during the workshop.
Course outcome: Participants are confident in their capacity to facilitate training of practitioners in the application of the PEDS developmental screening tool.

PEDS Foundation eLearning,
is suited to practitioners, both experienced and new to PEDS.
PEDS Foundation (Course 1) consists of four modules:
The course provides an overview of developmental screening, informs practitioners of the science that underpins PEDS and provides step by step instructions on the practical application of the tool. Key to the successful application of PEDS is parent engagement. Throughout the course practitioners are encouraged to
reflect on their practice and review how they support children and families.
The structure of the eLearning modules allows you to choose how and when you complete the modules. A bookmark feature allows you to exit a module when needed and start again where you left off.
On completion of the PEDS Foundation course participants will:
Review and reflect on:
The learning objectives of PEDS Advanced Practice aim to increase practitioners’ PEDS skills through:
PEDS Advanced Practice could be undertaken in small groups over several weeks, with learners completing sections of the course individually before reforming for group discussion and reflection.
Key to the successful application of PEDS is parent engagement. Throughout the course practitioners are once again encouraged to reflect on your practice and review how you support children and families.
