AI Ambient Scribe

AI Ambient Scribe

  • We’re introducing AI Ambient Scribes in selected areas of The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH). These tools help our clinicians focus more on children and families during appointments and less on the computer.

Using an ambient scribe is always optional.

We will only use this technology if you and your child give clear consent.

What is an AI Ambient Scribe?

AI Ambient Scribes (also called AI medical scribes) are secure tools that use audio and artificial intelligence to help write clinical notes.

    Here’s how they work

    • They listen to the conversation between the clinician, your child, and family during the appointment.
    • The tool then produces a draft clinical note, instead of the clinician needing to type during or after your visit.
    • This allows the clinician to maintain eye contact, listen closely, and stay fully focused on your child.
    • Only the clinical team can see these draft notes, and clinicians always review and approve them.

Why are we using this technology?

We want to create the best possible experience for children and families.

    Ambient scribes can help by:

    • Reducing time clinicians spend typing
    • Allowing clinicians to be more present during appointments
    • Supporting accuracy and completeness in clinical notes
    • Helping teams share information quickly and safely

Integrating AI Ambient Scribes at the RCH, enable our staff to better support patient care and a smoother experience for you and your child.
