About The Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED)

The Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders (CEED) is a key program within the Victorian government's response to the provision of quality services for those with eating disorders. CEED aims to undertake strageties to build quality, sustainable eating disorder treatment responses delivered by public specialist mental health services.

Services provided by CEED for specialist public mental health services:

  • Secondary Consultation on request to assist specialist public mental health services in assessment, treatment planning and management, of clients experiencing eating disorders
  • Professional education and training programs for mental health service staff
  • Development of Clinical resources for specialist public mental health services.

 

CEED's service system context:

CEED is a statewide program of Victoria's Specialist Public Mental Health Services, managed by North Western Mental Health, as part of Melbourne Health.

Eating Disorders Forum for Area Mental Health Services

CEED recently hosted a forum for AMHS senior staff presenting of the role of CEED in public mental health services and invited speakers Prof Jan Russell and A/Prof Daniel le Grange who addressed 'Models of Care for young people and adults with Eating Disorders'. Below are links to power point slides and background articles from the forum, along with a feedback form seeking input from public psychiatric services about your future training and inservice needs. We invite your service to complete the feedback form and forward it to CEED to assist us in planning for 2008.

26 October 2007:

The Mental Health and Drugs Division of the Department of Human Services has issued a Program Management Circular which describes and guides the role of public specialist mental health services, including CEED, in responding to the needs of Victorians of all ages who experience eating disorders.

Key message of the circular:

"Mental health services have a responsiblity to address the needs of the identified target population of individuals with eating disorders and their families. Policies and procedures and clinical practice should be developed that enable this service provision."

October 2007

Following the release of the Eating Disorders Service Mapping Project Report, the Minister for Mental Health, Lisa Neville has announced a four year funding commitment to CEED with a new remit for the provision of consultation and training to support Victoria's Area Mental Health Services (including adult mental, child and adolescent and adult specialist eating disorders services) in working with people with eating disorders.

CEED has been asked by the Mental Health Branch to convene a forum for Senior Staff of public mental health services to discuss service provision and development for people with eating disorders. CEED will be presenting the forum "Mental Health Service Response for People with Eating Disorders in Victoria - Eating Disorders Update" on Tuesday, 13 November. Invited speakers include Prof Daniel leGrange, Director Eating Disorders Program, University of Chicago and Prof Janice Russell, University of Sydney, Director, Eating Disorders Program, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital & Northside Clinic, NSW. Our distinguished speakers will address "Effective Treatment and Models of Care for Children and Young People and for Adults", respectively. Invitations will be sent to senior staff of area mental health services. (Please note this forum is limited to senior staff of Victoria's Mental Health Services.)
