Menorrhagia

  • The following tests should be ordered:

    • Full blood count
    • Iron studies
    • INR, PTT

    Bleeding disorder screens can be helpful, particularly if the personal or family history is suggestive of a bleeding disorder, however these tests should be deferred until after the acute episode of menorrhagia has resolved as the results can be affected by stress.

    • von Willebrand screen (factor VIII assay, von Willebrand factor antigen, ristocetin cofactor)
    • PFA-100

    • Beta-hCG
    • Urine chlamydia
    • TSH
    • PCOS screen
    • 17-OH-P
