Medical Workforce Unit

About us

  • The Medical Workforce Unit (MWU) co-ordinates the recruitment and appointment of all Junior Medical Staff (JMS) at The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH). JMS includes Junior Resident Medical Officers (JRMOs), Senior Resident Medical Officers (SRMOs), Registrars and Fellows, working both onsite and rotating through Victorian secondment sites.

MWU also provides support, guidance and advice to JMS and Department administrative staff regarding all employment requirements. This incorporates RCH Policies and Procedures, lodging applications and clarification on the content of the AMA Doctors in Training Award.

MWU is directly responsible for over 100 Paediatric Trainees – JRMOs, SRMOs and Registrars working on the rotating rosters. A further 200 JMS are appointed directly to Department-based positions each year. Paediatric training in Victoria is managed by the RCH and Monash Health, with the RCH recruiting to the JRMO and Registrar positions, and Monash Health recruiting to the SRMO positions.

Working closely with the JMS Training and Support team, MWU aim to ensure that all JMS – both local and international – have their employment and training needs met during their time at the RCH.
