Conditions Treated

  • As a provider or tertiary and quaternary paediatric urological services the Department of Urology manages every condition that affects the genito-urinary tract of infants, children and adolescents.  Below are some conditions that we treat here at The Royal Children's Hospital.

    • Kidney malformations: duplex kidney, ureteropelvic junction obstruction, multicystic kidney, horseshoe kidney
    • Ureter: ureterohydronephrosis, vesico-ureteral reflux, ureterocele
    • Bladder: bladder exstrophy, neurogenic bladder (spina bifida, ...)
    • Urethra: posterior urethral valve, stricture
    • Penile abnormalities: hypospadias, epispadias, foreskin abnormalities, 
    • Scrotum: undescended testis, hydrocele, epididymitis, testicular torsion, varicocele
    • Disorders of sexual differentiation
    • Complex conditions: cloacal exstrophy, cloaca, spina bifida, Prune Belly syndrome
    • Fetal diagnosis of uropathies
    • Elimination and continence disorders: bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis), constipation, urinary and fecal incontinence, explorations (uroflowmetry, urodynamics) and biofeedback
    • Genito-urinary trauma
    • Stones: kidney, ureter, bladder
    • Uro-genital and retroperitoneal tumors: Wilms, renal cell carcinoma, rhabdomyosarcomas, testicular tumors, neuroblastomas
