Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). Deliver to Specimen Reception within 15 minutes of collection as the sample deteriorates rapidly.

LAB NOTES Use the last CSF tube collected as the working tube.

Cytology may be requested for haematological malignancies (eg. ALL, AML, Lymphoma, etc.) and must be forwarded to RCH Haematology.

Cytology requested for non-haematological malignancies are forwarded to Anatomical Pathology during routine hours (Mon-Fri excluding Public Holidays 0600-1800hrs) and RCH Haematology After-hours - refer to Cytology (non-haematological tumour cell investigation), CSF.
