The Renal Unit Laboratory at the Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre is now offering a quantitative determination assay for Tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf) as a service to all hospitals.

The method used is the Abbot IMx Tacrolimus II assay based on the Microparticle Enzyme Immunoassay (MEIA) technology which utilises an Anti-Tacrolimus (Mouse Monoclonal) Antibody Coated Microparticles and Tacrolimus-Alkaline Phosphatase Conjugate. The Tacrolimus-Alkaline Phosphatase Conjugate for the Anti-Tacrolimus Antibody Coated Microparticles, and the quantity measured by the MEIA optical system.

The assay will be performed two days per week (Tuesday and Friday) and results will be available the same day. The assay requires 4ml (minimum volume 1ml) of EDTA treated whole blood.

All specimens should be forwarded to Central Specimen Reception, Level 6, Harold StokesBuilding, Austin Campus, Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre, Studley Road, Heidelberg 3084. Tests will be reimbursed under the Medical benefits arrangements (Medicare item number 66235).
