What to expect at Gatehouse

  • Gatehouse support

When your child accesses services from Gatehouse, you can expect the following:

    • Your child will be believed
    • You and your child will be treated with respect, sensitivity and understanding
    • To be informed of yours and your child’s rights
    • To get information
    • For you and your child to be in control of your decision-making
    • Privacy and confidentiality*

Gatehouse does not investigate reports of child sexual abuse or harmful sexual behaviour. We are a therapeutic counselling and advocacy service only. Agencies who do investigate reports of sexual abuse are the police and child protection.

*Gatehouse clinicians are considered mandatory reporters. This means that if they have safety concerns about a child or a vulnerable adult, they have to report this to the relevant body, e.g. child protection.

  • Recent child sexual abuse in early childhood education and care settings

Victoria Police are investigating allegations of sexual assault against children in a number of childcare centres across Melbourne. If you believe your child may have been impacted, please see the corresponding information and supports.
