Design - external clients - working with the ERC

  • Thank you for considering the design team at ERC to produce a publication for you.
To assist you, we will explain the process of producing artwork.

    Stage 1. Taking your brief

We will meet with you to discuss:

    1. The target audience for your publication
    2. Your text. Has it been edited and proof read?
    3. Imagery - use of lllustration, photography. ERC has in-house photographers and illustrators. You may supply us with material of your own, which we will assess for suitability
    4. The quantity of printed items
    5. A launch date for your publication

After taking your brief, a fee estimate is sent to you for consideration.

Following acceptance of our fee proposal, we will begin the project.

    Stage 2. Design Concept

After we receive final text and pictorial material, ERC will produce a design concept. This includes producing cover and page layouts for your comment.

    Stage 3. Design Development

After your acceptance of the design concept, we will complete the rest of your publication in the agreed style.

As part of this process, we will make up to two sets of alterations to the work, to incorporate your comments and to make minor amendments to text e.g. spelling and grammar corrections.

Pdf files or laser prints can be supplied for you to check.

The print quote may be required to be amended if specifications alter during this stage, eg. number of pages.

Stage 4. Further author's corrections to text and layout

If more than two sets of author's corrections are required, we will then charge the hourly rate stated in your quote. We can provide a quote for each round of corrections, when they are supplied.

Stage 5. Sign-off and print supervision

Finally we will ask you to sign-off that you have thoroughly proof-read the final artwork and that you approve the artwork to go to print.

We will check the printer's proofs and oversee quality control of production.

Generally, 5-10 working days should be allowed for printing and delivery, depending on the size of the publication.
