Clinical Photography

  • The clinical photography team is comprised of highly skilled medical photographers (all possessing B. App. Sci. [Photography] degrees) who understand the requirements and sensitivities of working with a healthcare environment.

    The photographers provide services to The Royal Children’s Hospital and the campus partners (MCRI and The University of Melbourne) as well as other hospitals in the wider health community

    The clinical photography team provide high quality clinical images that are used for;

    • patient monitoring and medical records
    • teaching
    • research & publication
    • medico-legal purposes

    Clinical photographs may be taken in the purpose built studio, wards, clinical area’s or theatre settings. 

    The clinical photography team also provide an after hours service for ‘Child at Risk’ patients.

    The 'on call' photographer may be contacted via the paging system (pg 5477 for CAR cases only).

    Request for Clinical Photography/3D Imaging and Clinical Video (via EMR)

    Clinical Photography/3D Imaging and Clinical Video is requested via the 'Orders' section of the EMR. The form is filled out electronically, and when 'Signed' off it will automatically print to the nearest printer (please ensure that all relevant information is completed for the photographer). The Patient Consent section must then be ticked appropriately and signed by the patient/parent or guardian before any photographs or imaging can be taken. The patient can then be sent (with the form) to the Clinical Photography/ 3D Imaging department located at Desk A4, Specialist Clinics on the Ground floor.

    If clinical photography is required in the wards or theatre, please leave the printed and signed form with the patient and contact a photographer on x57087 to arrange.
