Infection control and handwashing

  • The best way to protect your baby from getting an infection is to regularly wash your hands or use hand sanitiser gel. There are bottles of gel at several points along the corridors of the ward, on the walls outside every room and inside each patient room.
Always remember to gel or wash your hands on entering the ward, entering your baby’s room and before and after you touch or handle your baby.

Be mindful of mobile phones as they are not regularly cleaned and go everywhere with us. It's a good idea to clean your hands before and after using your phone at the bedside.

If your baby has an infection that may be spread to others there will be a sign on the door of their room with special instructions that you must follow before entering, for example, you may need to put on a plastic apron or full PPE. If you are unsure, please ask one of our staff to help you.
