Help at home

  • COCOON resources

Remember, you know your baby the best and you can continue to refer to all of the COCOON online resources for tips on reading your baby's cues, routines, feeding, and cares, or anything else you found helpful during your stay.

    Butterfly staff

We will most likely see you back at one or more of our Specialist Clinics - In the meantime, you can contact your nurse coordinator or bed card consultant after discharge, if necessary, by calling Butterfly on (03) 9345 5000, or the Department of Neonatal Medicine administrative assistant on (03) 9345 5008.

    Community support

There is plenty of support on offer outside of the hospital. You can contact your GP or maternal child health nurse; or call the nurse-on-call Helpline (1300 60 60 24) or contact your local hospital Emergency Department if you need advice outside of normal working hours.

    The National Disability Insurance Scheme

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a national support scheme for people with disability in Australia. It provides funding directly to families of children who require additional supports and services due to limitations in their abilities. Your child may need this for physiotherapy to optimise movement, occupational therapy to optimise function, speech and language therapy to optimise feeding and language development, amongst other things.

Our Allied Health team will let you know if they think you need to apply to the NDIS for funding for your child and they can talk you through the process. This booklet is a great place to start learning about the NDIS. Please let us know if you have any questions about this before you go.
