Every Toddler Talking is a key initiative of the Victorian Government Department of Education and Training’s Early Years Strategic Plan 2014-2020 to improve language and communication outcomes for babies and toddlers. Every Toddler Talking will strengthen early childhood educators’ ability to promote children’s language development (birth to three) and improve collaboration between early childhood educators, allied health and other early childhood professionals.
The Department partnered with Murdoch Childrens Research Institute to deliver Phase One of Every Toddler Talking, which involved a review of evidence-based practices internationally and current practices in Victoria to inform the design of the Every Toddler Talking model and trial. The findings of the study have now been compiled and recommendations presented to the Department.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed their knowledge and expertise to Phase One.
The phase one report of the Every Toddler Talking initiative is now available to download. The report provides a summary of the evidence-based programs and practices used in Victoria to promote babies’ and toddlers’ language and communication and provides options and recommendations for the Every Toddler
Talking model and evaluation.
The report was produced by the Centre for Community Child Health and the Centre of Research Excellence in Child Language at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and commissioned by the Victorian Department of Education and Training (the Department).
The Department is entering into phase two of the Every Toddler Talking research trial. The trial will investigate ways to further strengthen early childhood educators’ skills and knowledge to support language and communication for all children aged birth to three. Collaboration between educators and speech pathologists will be an essential part of the research trial.
The Department is now inviting eligible services to participate in the research trial – expressions of interest close at 5pm on 21 December 2015. For further information or to submit an expression of interest, see Every Toddler Talking.
