Appointment Only Service
Patients requiring an Andrology test or sperm banking must
book an appointment beforehand. This is to ensure that the sample
is analysed within one hour, to give a reliable result to the doctor, and so
that patients freezing their sperm for long term use will have the best
possible chance of a viable sample post-thaw.
All patients require a pathology form or referral letter from their GP or specialist to attend their appointment. Patients attending for Sperm Banking must also bring photo ID, Medicare Card and Healthcare Card.
Andrology Collection Facilities
Patients can choose to produce their sample at home, so long as they live within 60 minutes of the laboratory and can deliver their sample within that time-frame. Patients living further away, or those who otherwise prefer, can attend the Andrology Unit to produce a semen sample on site. There is a quiet and private area specifically designated for sample production behind a locked door. Patients report to the Andrology Unit and will be shown by staff to the area and given instructions. Disinfection and hygiene checks are carried out routinely after each patient.
Patients must follow routine hospital entry screening (QR code and temperature check) on arrival the Andrology Unit, and wear a face mask at all times while on the premises.
It is advised that patients attend alone, however guardians and/or partners may accompany patients unless otherwise advised at the time of booking an appointment.
Hospital collections may also be arranged, please contact the laboratory about this.
Instructions
Patients are advised to have between 2 and 7 days sexual abstinence on the day of their appointment, i.e. if you book an appointment for Monday at 09:00 am, the last time you should ejaculate would be the previous Saturday morning at 09:00.
Remember that we are not located at the Royal Children's Hospital - please check our location before attending for your appointment.
