RCH Volunteer Service

About RCH Volunteers

  • Our team of more than 500 Volunteers provide invaluable support and assistance to families, patients and staff at The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH).

From helping families find their way around the hospital, to visiting bored, bed-bound patients, assisting staff with administrative tasks and providing respite for parents, the input of our Volunteers is vital to the day-to-day functioning of the hospital.

The RCH is in the privileged position of having far more interest from potential Volunteers than available positions, with about 1,000 people attending information sessions each year to apply for only 150 openings.

Potential Volunteers go through a rigorous selection process, which ensures only those who are able to contribute solid experience and expertise gained from the workplace or a similar volunteer role, backed with glowing references, are successful.

As a result, we can truly boast that ours is a world-class Volunteer Service.

All our Volunteers are motivated by a strong desire to assist patients and families. Volunteering does not suit candidates whose main motivation is to improve their current or future career prospects. Students seeking work-experience or work placements should refer to the Careers page.
