eSwab® collection kit

eSwab with Slide

Note: Swabs within eSwab® collection kit may vary in colour

Prior to sample collection, please take note of the following:

  • A natural sulphur like odour can be detected when first opening the eSwab® peel pouch. This is normal and completely harmless.

  • Do not use the medium in the tube to pre moisten/pre wet the applicator stick prior to specimen collection.

  • Do not use the medium to irrigate or rinse the sampling site.

  • Only 1 swab can fit into the tube. Discard the other if not used.

  Instructions for use

  1. Open the peel pouch.

  2. Remove one swab and use this to collect the patient sample.

    Application to Culture and Microscopy requests only excluding: Bacterial screening requests & GBS antenatal requests – skip to step 5

  3. Inoculate the glass slide provided in a circular motion. Discard the swab.

  4. Without handling the swab below the breakpoint (pink) line, remove the other swab and sample tube.

  5. Collect the patient sample.

  6. Remove the screw cap from the tube.

  7. Immediately insert the swab slowly into the tube.

  8. Please ensure the liquid remains in the tube.

    NB: If the liquid spills, please use a new collection kit

  9. Bend and break the swab shaft at the breakpoint (pink) line.

  10. Discard the top of the swab shaft.

  11. Replace the cap and secure tightly.

  12. Label the specimen and pathology request form.
