Collection Notes

1. Book test in advance with Pathology Collection 55821.  RCH: This test is orderable through EPIC and an appointment in EPIC will be made by Pathology Collection. Pathology Collection will notify RCH Haematology Senior Scientist 55822 with booked test date/time.

2. Please note time of last Cysteamine dose on the request form. 

Unless otherwise specified by treating clinician:

For immediate release Cysteamine Bitartrate therapy - Collect sample 6 hours post dose

For delayed release Cysteamine Bitartrate therapy - Collect sample 12-12.5 hours post dose

See CH-M-057  Prepare leucocyte pellets and freeze at -70°C for Send-Away

SPECIMEN RECEPTION

Send to testing laboratory on dry ice. Do not pack dry ice in a sealed container.  Use appropriate PPE.

Specimens sent to testing laboratory on Wednesdays.

Result turnaround : 4 weeks following receipt by testing Laboratory
