Transfusion history required. Test is not reliable if patient has been recently transfused.

LAB NOTES
Send blood specimen to Cell Therapy & Flow Cytometry Laboratory; Send blood film to Haematologist for review

EXTERNAL REFERRALS

In addition to the test sample and stained blood film, also send 6 normal PB samples (i.e. normal red cell indices), collected within 24 hours of the patient sample.

If the patient is less than 4 weeks old, please send 3 normal neonatal (<4 weeks old) PB samples (i.e. normal red cell indices) collected within 24 hours of the patient sample

If a blood film is not available, one must be made from the test EDTA sample within 24 hours of collection date if possible
