Comments

p50 is the partial pressure of a gas required to achieve 50% enzyme saturation. Although performed as part of a Blood Gas, it is usually not reported.

Test must be requested additionally to Blood Gas but tested from the same specimen. It cannot be performed on a capillary sample.

Following collection, roll syringe between hands to mix heparin into the blood. If a delay of more than 15mins between collection and testing is anticipated, keep sample on ice pillow. If sample is to be analysed in the Core Laboratory: Label sample with the patient's identification and date & time of collection. RCH Blood Gas analysers located on 2nd floor (PICU & Core Laboratory); 3rd floor (NNU) and Emergency. RWH Blood Gas analysers located Level 4 (NISC); Level 5 (Core Laboratory)
