LABORATORY NOTES

Biochemistry must approve sending of this test. Approval based on confirmed total LDH greater than the upper limit of normal.

The specimen MUST be collected on MONDAY or TUESDAY to ensure interstate transport requirements are met and specimen stability is not compromised. Collections outside of these times require Biochemistry senior scientist authorisation

The LDH isoenzyme specimen must arrive at the interstate referral laboratory within 8 days of collection.

SPECIMEN MUST BE SENT AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

Total LDH must be requested and resulted for all specimens PRIOR to LDH Isoenzymes requests being dispatched to the referral Laboratory. LDH Isoenzymes will only be performed if the total LDH is greater than the upper limit of normal (ULN).

NOTE: The ULN for Total LDH differs depending on the method used (e.g. RCH total LDH method lactate to pyruvate. Total LDH measured using pyruvate to lactate methods will be approximately ULN 2-3 fold lower).
