Preferred specimen: Urine, 24 hr collection in PRE-ACIDIFIED container. Obtained from Core lab.

Comments

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Pre-acidified container with 50mL, 3M HCl to be prepared by Core Lab.  (caution - acid is corrosive). Issue with collection kit (funnel and container).

Ensure patient /carer understands risk associated with acid -use interpreter service if required.

LAB NOTES Urine - 24 hour Collection: aliquot 30mL urine to send.

NOTE: Acidified urine may be stored at room temperature for up to 3 days. If shipment of the acidified urine is likely to take longer than 3 days, freeze and send on dry ice. Urine - Random Collection: On arrival, freeze urine. 

Send to testing laboratory on dry ice. Do not pack dry ice in a sealed container.  Use appropriate PPE.
