Lithium Heparin required and EDTA for an FBE.

Test MUST be set up within 24 hours of collection for results to be reported to <0.1% B cells. Samples set up 24-48hrs are reported to the lower sensitivity of <0.5% B cells.

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL lithium heparin and 0.5mL EDTA for an FBE

Comments

Medical Staff: Please request an FBE as it is required to quantitate absolute values and must be collected at the same time.

Collection Staff: If blood is to be collected Fridays after 12 midday, please call laboratory ext 55725 before collecting specimen.

Specimen Reception/Laboratory: Do not spin. Keep at room temperature.

External Laboratories:
Samples MUST arrive at RCH within 24 hrs of collection. Samples should be collected in the AFTERNOON on Mondays to Thursdays (excluding public holidays) to ensure the samples arrive and are tested within 24 hrs. 

Samples must be kept at room temperature during transportation.

The FBE can be performed locally. Please supply a copy of the FBE result.
