Collect:EDTA blood for Ebola virus PCR, plain blood in serum-gel tube and a Copan eSwab Mini Tip FLOQSwab (orange cap) cheek swab.

Note: If a swab larger than the Copan eSwab Mini Tip FLOQSwab (orange cap) is required, please consider using the Red Top Dry FLOQSwab - 552C.

CONTACT THE ON CALL MICROBIOLOGY PATHOLOGIST via RCH Switchboard ASAP for advice. (Dial '91' at RCH)

-Follow instructions carefully

-The special kit must be hand delivered to RCH Specimen Reception. DO NOT USE the pneumatic tube for specimen transport.

ISSUE of Collection/ transport 'KIT':Issue one of the specimen collections 'kits' to Emergency Department/Rosella as requested (located on "out of hours Send Away' bench at Specimen Reception in the large blue labelled container)

RETURN OF EBOLA virus specimen collection/ transport kit to Specimen Reception:

-DO NOT OPEN THE BAG

Follow Instructions in LS-W-039. A printed copy is located at Specimen reception

NOTE:THE BAG MUST ONLY BE OPENED UNDER PC2 CONDITIONS in the Faecal Prep room in the Micro Serology Laboratory.
