Lab Notes: Spin, separate plasma and freeze. Specimens that are grossly haemolysed are unsuitable for analysis, liaise with Biochemistry staff member to visually assess haemolysis level.  If unsuitable, KIMMS the request, notify the requesting clinician and arrange for recollection if required.

If a specimen is received during business hours (Mon- Fri) SEND IMMEDIATELY to testing laboratory on dry ice. Do not pack dry ice in a sealed container.  Use appropriate PPE.

If specimen received after-hours, contact the requesting doctor to determine test result urgency.
