Use Sterile Saline when collecting skin biopsies for Tissue Culture Lab
•         Fully submerge samples in Sterile Saline
•         Keep samples at 4°C (do not freeze)
•         Transport all samples using ice packs
•         Do not  use gauze or cotton when collecting skin biopsies
•         Clinical staff to notify MCRI directly when a Skin Biopsy is to be collected either via e-mail tissueculture@mcri.edu.au or  Ph.: 03 8341 6230 & 03 99366746

Lab Notes:

Store specimen in refrigerator (not frozen). Add procedure code SAVTC for Tissue Culture and sendaway to VCGS/MCRI.  Add note on request form for cells to be returned to Specimen Reception when available.

Tissue Culture Laboratory Staff (MCRI) will co-ordinate with specimen reception when cell line is ready to send to referral laboratory.
