The Royal Children's Hospital Volunteer Service has been in operation since 1961, when the hospital was based in Carlton. At that time all volunteers were women. New volunteers were required to complete a probation period of work in the Sibling Creche, caring for the brothers and sisters of hospital patients.
Today there are more than 300 men and women, from diverse backgrounds who come to volunteering at the RCH for different reasons. Many aspects of the volunteer service have changed, however the tradition of giving and caring for sick and injured children and their families continues. See our services page for information on the volunteer roles within the hospital.
