For Parents

Will my baby be offered a newborn hearing screen?

All newborn infants born or admitted to any of the following participating hospitals will be offered a screen.

This includes well babies and infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) or the special care nursery (SCN) at the following hospitals:

Phase 1 hospitals (screening from 2005) 

  • The Women's
  • Frances Perry House
  • Mercy Hospital for Women
  • Monash Medical Centre
  • Jessie McPherson Private Hospital
  • Wodonga Regional Health Service
  • Royal Children's Hospital (NICU)

Phase 2 hospitals (screening from Dec 2008/Jan 2009)

  • Angliss Health Service
  • Box Hill Hospital
  • Casey Hospital
  • Dandenong Hospital
  • Frankston Hospital
  • Healesville and District Health Service*
  • Rosebud Hospital*
  • Sandringham and District Memorial Hospital
  • Sunshine Hospital
  • The Northern Hospital
  • Werribee Mercy Hospital

*Outpatient screening only

Throughout 2009 and 2010 VIHSP newborn hearing screening will be established in more hospitals across Victoria.
