About the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP)

The Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program screens the hearing of newborn babies while they are still in hospital. The screen is performed by trained hearing screeners using standard technology and is done at the baby's bedside while they are asleep. The program aims to detect hearing loss so these infants can get input very early in life to improve their communication and learning.

VIHSP is expanding to cover all maternity hospitals throughout Victoria. Currently VIHSP operates in a number of participating Hospitals.
