About Surgery

The Division of Surgery at The Royal Children's Hospital provides the full spectrum of paediatric surgical services for infants, children and adolescents.

About 10,000 children undergo surgery at the RCH each year, and all of them are cared for in the RCH Surgery area - a self-contained unit that cares for children of all ages requiring elective or emergency operations. As well as treating existing inpatients who require surgery, the new RCH surgery process also caters for children to be admitted, have an operation, and be discharged within the same day.
