Coming for surgery

  • If you are bringing your child to The Royal Children's Hospital for any surgical procedure, you will come to Reception J - Surgery, located in the East Building on Level 3 - Tree Tops, via the yellow lifts. Click here (Getting to the RCH.doc) for details about getting to the hospital and parking. Section 3 of the RCH Guide also provides plenty of useful information about preparing your child, and what to bring for their hospital stay. Link to web based info

In the days before surgery, it's a good idea to contact the RCH  Pre-Admission Resource Centre to gather information and ask questions.  Preparing for hospital - a parents' guide, and resources and links, are all helpful.

The medical staff caring for your child on the day of surgery will make every effort to ensure that their stay with us is as comfortable as possible. Your child must not eat or drink anything for several hours before any operation involving general anaesthetic. This fasting process makes the anaesthesia as safe as possible. Visit  Anaesthesia & Pain Management for more information.
