Referrals

The Social Work Department provides a free service to any child or family who is a patient of The Royal Children’s Hospital (whether private or public).

Hours

The Department is open 8.45am to 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday.  The Social Work Department also provides an after hours service to the ICU 365 days of the year.

As part of the HARP program a social work service is available in Emergency -  Morning: 8am to 2:30pm Evening: 2pm to 10pm
 7 days a week.

How long before social workers can see people referred?

The Social Work Department aims to be responsive and flexible. Referrals are normally followed up within two hours of receipt.

Who can make referrals?

Referrals can be made by patients, their families, RCH staff or community based professionals.

How can referrals be made?

Referrals can be made:

• By phoning the Social Work Department on 9345 6111
• Staff within the Hospital can also make referrals on the Social Work Department referral form, by calling x6111 or by paging the social worker allocated to that unit (see Unit Allocations list).
• ICU On-call Service (for serious trauma) - An after hours service is available 365 days per year through The Royal Children's Hospital Switchboard.
