Our Identity - Brand Guidelines and Procedures

Branded materials are an important part of the visual identity of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). It is vital that our new brand is applied consistently and professionally across all hospital materials.

The Educational Resource Centre (ERC) provides professional graphic design services for all hospital departments. To arrange for department materials to be professionally designed, contact the ERC Production Manager on ext 55481.

Staff can prepare a wide range of RCH branded materials by downloading the templates available on this page.

Other pre-printed branded materials, such as stationery, can be ordered through Material Resources.

More detailed information on developing RCH branded materials can be found below.

If you require any further assistance, or have questions about the design and production of RCH branded materials, please contact Corporate Communications on ext 55130 or ERC on ext 55481.

Advertising

All RCH advertising (recruitment and general) appearing in print media must be designed by the ERC and bookings co-ordinated by the Human Resources department. If you need to design and place an advertisement for any reason, contact the Senior HR Advisor on ext 55191.

Brand Guidelines

RCH brand guidelines are available to direct staff in the use of the RCH brand and brand elements.

External designers and suppliers should contact ERC to obtain a copy of the guidelines to ensure the RCH brand is used correctly. The ERC will oversee the application of the RCH brand when used by an external organisation and approve final artwork.

Brand Elements

The RCH Corporate Communication team and ERC provide design and branding support to all departments of the hospital.

The RCH brand and visual identity includes a range of elements including fonts, colour palettes, graphic patterns, images and the logo. These elements and their application are outlined in the RCH brand manual.

Contact Corporate Communications on ext 55130 for advice on the final application of brand elements in instances where RCH templates are not used.

Flyer

General

If you require tailored, department specific flyers, DL brochures or other printed materials, contact Educational Resource Centre on ext 55481.

Co-Branding

There are many instances when the RCH seeks to co-brand with other organsiations. A formula has been developed for applying the RCH brand with the logos of other organisations. The ERC or Corporate Communications can provide advice on co-branding.

A standard approach for how we co-brand with our campus partners, and how the campus is represented as a whole, has been developed. 'The Children’s' mark includes The Royal Children’s Hospital, Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and The University of Melbourne logos. These have been united into a single statement 'The Children’s' to communicate the campus partnership.

The Children’s mark can only be used in one of two ways:

1. As an endorsing mark on communications from any one of the Campus partners OR
2. As a sole mark on communications materials of the Campus.

Colour Palette

Colour is an important element in our brand identity. Primary and secondary colour palettes have been developed to support our new brandmark. For more information on the correct use of colour in RCH branded materials, contact the ERC design studio on ext 57026.

Conference Posters

Conference posters can be designed and produced by the ERC by booking a job with the ERC Production Manager ext 55481.

Fonts

There are three typefaces (fonts) used in RCH communications.

  • Whitney is the font used in our logo and is the preferred typeface for materials developed by the ERC. This typeface will not be widely available to RCH staff.
  • Open Sans is the preferred font for screen and web applications. Open Sans is a Word based font that can be installed on staff computers by contacting the ICT department. This font has been selected for its likeness to Whitney.
  • Verdana is the font for all other print materials. This includes general RCH correspondance, reports, notices etc.

Invitations

An RCH invitation template will be available in the coming weeks. To arrange for an invitation to be designed, please contact the ERC on ext 55481.

Letterhead

RCH letterhead is available for download or pre-printed stock can be ordered through material resources.

Electronic letterhead will be developed for each department over the coming weeks. In the meantime, departments should use the generic letterhead.

Logo

The RCH logo is presented in several different formats and layouts to accommodate a wide range of applications. When applying these logos, the correct size, colour and placement must be achieved. To support staff correctly brand RCH materials, generic templaets have been created with the RCH logo embedded.

Alternatively, ERC can provide design services for RCH materials that will ensure the correct use of all RCH brand elements, including the logo.

In some instances, it may be necessary for the logo to be issued directly to a department. The ERC will work with all departments and external organsiations to ensure the logo is used correctly. To request the RCH logo, please fill out the form below.
