RCH International (RCHI)

About RCH International

Our region has 60% of the world’s people, 30% of whom are children under the age of 15. Each year millions of children die from communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Reducing child mortality and morbidity in resource poor countries of our region is RCH International’s core commitment. We are passionate about the right of all children to enjoy the highest attainable standards of health.

Established in 1998, RCH International has developed a vibrant and growing international network, partnering with recognized organizations similarly committed to our rights-based approach to child health.  We are an integral department of The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Melbourne. Co-located with the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, we draw on brands of extremely high international value and integrity.   RCH International has a unique focus on hospital to hospital capacity building. Our projects help major hospitals serving some of the neediest countries of our region to improve the quality of their services.

RCH Melbourne and its campus partners have technical resources of great depth, spanning all aspects of clinical care, teaching and research in child and adolescent health.  RCH International extends the reach of these resources to projects assisting hospitals in resource poor countries of the Asia Pacific region.

We support the development of sustainable, high quality healthcare services for children and families.  Our projects engage highly qualified and experienced health professionals from partner hospitals and RCH Melbourne in quality improvement activities that develop leadership in paediatric healthcare delivery.

Funding is provided by like-minded organisations through philanthrophy.

We operate through a hospital to hospital model, assisting our partners in agreed priority areas including:

  • Patient care
  • Delivery of service outcomes
  • Workforce training and management
  • Organisational systems development

Projects are evidence-based and regularly assessed to measure impact on quality of service and the achievement of defined service objectives.
