We are just gearing up to get back in the fundraising swing and are just in the process of organising a "Murder Mystery" party in November and we are confident of raising a good deal of money for the kids.
We have a great time helping to raise money for this wonderful cause. We held a fishing competition in October last year, which we hope will become an annual event. A fire and ice BBQ was donated to us as first prize and was won by a lady who caught a very small Parrot fish (not a good fish) but never the less it was the heaviest caught on the day and all the competitors wished her well. We also had fishing rods donated to us for other prizes and fishing gear for raffle prizes which was also drawn on the day. Even the sun shone on that day which is a big ask here at Port Fairy, we are known best for our cold winds and lack of sunshine.
One of the best days we have had was our “Cow Pad” day. Our home is on a 2 acre block just out of Port Fairy CBD so we let it be known that we would hold a cow pad day. We marked out squares in the paddock and locked Bossy the cow up for a couple of hours until 4 o’clock, the official let loose time. While we all waited for the time to come we had gumboot throwing competitions, a snooker competition and for the hungry ones a sausage sizzle. Bossy was then let loose into the marked paddock and we all waited and watched for her to um… do her business (so to speak). The cow pad squares were $5.00 a square. The whole day raised $800 for the kids at the hospital.
The word is starting to spread that we are now an Auxiliary for The Royal Children’s Hospital and we are getting new and wonderful ideas, offers of help and offers of donations. So we have our thoughts set now on trying to come up with another unique idea for a fundraiser. We will stick to the country theme because it has such great atmosphere.
We look forward to continuing to raise funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital even though we are small and our contributions are not large we get great satisfaction in knowing that we have helped in some way.
