On 5 May, 1993 a small group of people met to form the Music Therapy Auxiliary. Their fundraising efforts assist in employing three part-time music therapists at the hospital. They have also funded the purchase of a computer and MiniDisc to make CD’s of the patients’ music.
Members of the Music Therapy Auxiliary are proud of our contribution to salaries of the Hospital’s team of therapists for the 15 years since our foundation. The expertise of the four part-time therapists now employed at RCH is much appreciated and well recognized throughout the hospital.
Our principal source of reliable income is the Gift Shop, as a result of our hours worked there, and we express our gratitude for this opportunity and for the way in which Helen, Marie and Julie help to make this an enjoyable experience for the seven shop assistant-volunteers.
This income has been supplemented by several generous donations and the proceeds of a recent music recital given in Templestowe by expert musicians Frederick Shade and Mary Anderson. We thank them for their generosity and enthusiasm. The hospital’s orchestra, Melbourne Sinfonia has continued to donate the profits from its concerts to Music Therapy.
Thanks to these contributions we are able to assure the Music Therapy team of our continuing support of their special skills, helping to “make sick kids better”.
