Annual Report

It has been an exciting year as we have seen the culmination of our book a Caring For Our Children the history of Nursing Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. By Margaret McInnes.

Margaret has produced a superb tribute to the nursing service of the hospital in both text and pictorially. The book will bring much pleasure to those of us who have been privileged to be past students and later registered nurses, claiming the Children's as our Alma Mater.

To Margaret, our appreciation for the many, many hours of research and attention to detail, and commitment to every aspect of writing. We are also indebted to our Editorial Committee, to Nick Walker publisher, Australian Scholarly Publishing Pty. Ltd., and his staff, to Bronwyn Hewitt, Archivist at the hospital, and a sincere vote of thanks for all the support over the past years. To Dame Elisabeth Murdoch our heartfelt thanks, for without her marvelous generosity the project would never have been possible. To our membership your wonderful support has been greatly valued.

General Fundraising: This has been a wonderful effort particularly on behalf of Dianne Paul who negotiated with Mr. Val Pyers and the Victoria Chorale who presented those lovely concerts. To Ann Robinson who managed the ordering and distribution of all the merchandise. We will wish to continue to raise money for Nursing Research and other projects that the Auxiliaries may present.

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all members of the Committee for their support during the year. In particular I would on behalf of all members pay tribute to Adele Brain who has for many years raised funds with her Bring and Buy Stall at each meeting. It is a joy that Jean Hardham at the age of 95 years never misses a Committee meeting. The League owns a great deal to Ann Robinson who is in many ways the glue that keeps it together. I well remember some years ago it was suggested that we should cease to exist, but some of us thought otherwise and how delighted I am that we did continue and in doing so we now have our book CARING FOR OUR CHILDREN.
