The LARCH Story

LARCH supports the Haematology and Oncology department by raising funds for research and offering support to staff and families. Members have contributed through the Leukaemia Fun Run, the sale of artworks at Yering Station, stalls, proceeds from a photographic exhibition, and markets. There is also the LARCH Family Picnic Races held at the Yering Station Winery.

Annual Report

The year ending June 2007 has seen a continuation of LARCH’s substantial contributions to authorized research and support programs conducted through the Royal Children’s Hospital.

LARCH has recommenced financial support of patients and their families through the LARCH Samaritan Fund, which provides emergency expenses as a consequence of hospitalization.

Our focus in the last year has been on the recruitment and involvement of new and energetic members.  This year sees a number of changes at LARCH; a new President and Secretary, a number of young and enthusiastic new members and a couple of retirements from office.

Mervyll Reid held the position of President for over five years with another five prior to that as Treasurer.  LARCH is indebted to Mervyll for his leadership over the period of time and we thank both Mervyll and his family for their invaluable contribution.  Mervyll and his wife Susan remain valued LARCH members and will this year hold the bi-annual Lindenderry Luncheon on 17th June 2007.

We also say farewell to Noelene Hammond as LARCH Stalls Co-ordinator.  After five years running the hospital stalls and countless others at regional markets for LARCH, Noelene is retiring with her husband to Northern Victoria.  Noelene has dedicated almost all of her time over the years to raising funds for LARCH and promoting our auxiliary in regional Victoria.  Noelene will remain an active member of LARCH and no doubt will continue to support LARCH from her new address.  We thank Noelene for her years of dedicated service and wish her all the very best for a well deserved retirement.

LARCH welcomes new member Emma Bridgeman as Secretary and Christine Boulter as Stalls Co-ordinator.  Former LARCH Secretary, Claudia McCarthy has taken on the role of President and Christine McRae and Mario Lopreiato have continued their respective roles as Treasurer and Vice President.

We are currently working towards our bi-annual fundraising luncheon at Lindenderry Winery Red Hill.  This is always a most successful enjoyable event.

Over the course of the last year, LARCH received generous donations from a variety of sources.  LARCH acknowledges the ongoing support of Yering Station Winery, who holds frequent art exhibitions, the proceeds of which are donated to our Auxiliary.  Community fundraisers such as “Emilia’s Big Night Out” which raised $6,890 and the proceeds from participants in the “Around the Bay in a Day” bike ride raising $4,500 were significant contributors to LARCH over the year.  Noelene Hammond’s stalls and the sale of auxiliary tote bags were also a constant source of income and LARCH would like to thank Noelene Hammond and all those who assisted her or donated goods for sale.

LARCH continues to support research into diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer and programs that assist family’s children undergoing treatment.  Our dream is of a world free from childhood cancer.  Our goal is to provide funding that enables the specialist staff of the Children’s Cancer Centre, to fulfill this dream.

Thank you to all who have contributed to LARCH and continue to support our cause.

LARCH looks forward to continuing its support of research projects and of families in need during the next fundraising year.
