The Knox- Sherbrooke Royal Children's Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1977. The founder had a particularly close relationship with the hospital, having a son who benefitted from its world-class facilities and staff; spending many months in intensive care as a result of falling from a roof. Many people responded to an ad placed in the local paper, and soon membership of the new Auxiliary grew to eleven. Over the years membership has continued to grow, with some 28 members in 2008 as well as many more contributors and supporters. Members reside in the Knox LGA, comprising of the suburbs of Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Bayswater, Wantirna, as well as Belgrave and the Dandenongs. Meetings are held every two months in members homes. Fundraising is primarily through the numerous social activities held during the year, including day trips, craft demonstations and fashion parades, theatre nights and morning teas and lunches, proceeds from our craft and bric-a-brac stalls held in the hospital foyer, bookstalls and raffles. We are proud to have funded much needed medical equiptment over the years including intensive care cots, x-ray machines and monitors. We welcome new members to join the auxiliary. Please contact The Royal Children's Hospital for more details.
Knox/Sherbrooke actively fundraises for the hospital through raffles, running stalls, tours to places like Hanging Rock and the Gippsland Deli. They have held a photocraft and scrapbook day with lunch, to hosting film luncheons. Money raised funds items on the hospital's Wish List.
Our members have been extremely busy with their fund raising activities this year, easily exceeding previous amounts. With some 28 members, four of whom have been with us since our inception in 1977, the Knox Sherbrooke Auxiliary continues to raise much needed funds for the hospital. The past years events have included a day trip to the historic Mont De Lancy, tour of the Dandenongs including The Singing Gardens of CJ Dennis and tour of regional Bacchus Marsh and surrounds. Our members enjoyed attending local amateur theatre nights, craft demonstrations, fashion parades and morning teas. The auxiliary has also held monthly craft and bric-a-brac stalls in the hospital foyer as well as several bookstalls. A big thank you to our members and the numerous other contributors who have supported us with their time, donations of raffle prizes and good for our stalls. We hope you will continue to support us and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
