Heartkids was formed in 1990 by a group of parents who have children with heart problems. They became a hospital Auxiliary in 1996. This group raises funds to support Paediatric Cardiac Research as well as parent/patient comfort on wards 7 West and 7 East. Some events they organise include Teen Camps; Rock n' Roll Nights; and Sailing Days. Many organisations, companies and individuals support them with donations. For more information about this Auxiliary have a look at their website: www.heartkidsvic.org.au
The Heartkids Auxiliary of the Royal Children’s Hospital continues to be a vital arm to the work that we do. The activities we have run as an Auxiliary this year are Stick on a Smile Campaign, with all funds going to the Australia and New Zealand Children’s Research Centre, the Moonee Valley Rotary Club’s “Big Hearts Helping Little Hearts” program raised $100,000 for two Trans-oesophageal echocardiographs and Shining Hearts Gala Ball raised $50,000 for the redevelopment of the 7 West Cardiology Ward.
Through our Auxiliary, we have also funded a cardiology handbook, Dentral Brochure, Cardiology Discharge Brochure, a Transilluminator, Cardiology Bear Project, and monitoring equipment for the ward. We also improved the Heart Clinic with motifs that made it a more child friendly environment, through the support of Splash’s
We are very proud to be an Auxiliary of this amazing institution, The Royal Children’s Hospital, which ultimately heals our children.
We would like to thank the team from the Auxiliary Office who make this all possible, their support is always unflagging and with a smile at the ready, they are always there to advise and support us in the work we do.
