The Year So Far...

Our Auxiliary has made a great start to 2009. first we conducted a very successful Bunnings sausage sizzle on New Years day,Thurs. 1/1/09. Then for the remainder of January, we took a well earned rest.

We resumed with a busy meeting on Mon. 2nd Feb. distributing Movie tickets for our March cinema fundraiser.  We enjoyed 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' with 188 attendees. The March meeting was our AGM where our secretary,Mrs Joan Davies retired.  Our speciat thanks to Joan for her support and competency in the position.  Mrs Jan Wapling was elected as our new secretary, while all other officebearers were re-elected.

Our ongoing commitments at the RCH, i.e our popular monthly stall in the foyer, plus assisting in the gift shop will continue.  In addition we will also staff the Merchandise stall one day each month.  These activities also provide more revenue to combine with our local fundraising.
The new 09/10 Entertainment Book is our current, ongoing fundraiser.  The hospital receives $10.00 for each book sold.  The Geelong, Surfcoast & Ballarat Entertainment book is full of special offers for dining, entertainment, holidays, etc.  We can also accept orders for the new Melbourne Entertainment Book.  For more info. call Gwen on 5241 2717 / 0407564386.

Easter saw two very successful stalls conducted on Thurs. 9/4/09 at Highton village, then on Fri.10/4/09 at the Good Friday market at Beckley Park
We have also welcomed three new members to date for 09, which is great to see our membership growing.  Visitors and guests are most welcome to attend any of our monthly meetings which are held the first Monday  (Feb. - Dec. incl.)1.30pm, at St Josephs Football Clubrooms, Hilltop Ave., Herne Hill.

In April our Guest Speaker, Daphne, from Friends of the Botanic Gardens, spoke on 'Coping with the drought in the home garden'.  At our May meeting we are going to enjoy a mini workshop, swapping patterns and ideas to make items for our stalls later in the year.

Annual Report

Once again I would like to thank all you remarkable ladies who continue to come along and support the auxiliary. I am always amazed at the amount of knitting and sewing that appears at each meeting. I know that there is a few of you that don’t stop whilst on holidays. Thankyou.

We have had another successful year of fundraising which is due, of course, to this hard working auxiliary. Even though we haven’t had as many events we still have managed to have had a rewarding year. Out picture mornings have become popular with anyone that has attended, so we hope we can find some quality fun movies again this year. We had a very successful stall at Highton, thank you once again to all those wonderful ladies that bake and supply our stall with quality produce. Of course we must mention our weekend at Birregurra even though we nearly got blown away! We may not have raised as much money as we would have liked, but it is a fun even that I hope will continue. Of course with our bags, socks, smocks and other merchandise keep bringing in money due to the efforts of out members. I am always hesitant at mentioning particular people as you all work hard, but I also think that the “Bunnings” sausage sizzle families should be given a special mention. Whilst some of us were sunning ourselves over the Christmas break, there was another special group that were sweating over a hot barbeque. Thank you to each and every one of you and a special thankyou to your long suffering husbands!

We have managed once again to purchase some much needed equipment this year; two haemodialysis machines. These machines have a life span of seven years, and the ones being replaced were already out of date. Without this equipment, patients with end stage renal failure would die. It is important to know that we can make a difference with our fundraising.

To each of you, my personal thanks for your help and support during my time as president. I do hope you will give the same support to our new president. Once again, I cant tell you how important it is to bring along new members so we can keep this Auxiliary going.
